Back to School – The Holistic Way
It’s back to school time!
Skyy starts high school this year, my time flies! I must admit, I had it pretty good when he was in primary school. His canteen was super healthy and primarily Paleo; meaning he had a lunch order most days #busymumlife #peaceofmindforme.
So until I “Wild for Life-ify” the high school canteen, it’s back to packed lunches from home, completely free from unwanted ingredients and processed foods. Meaning zero additives, preservatives, sugar, grains and dodgy fats.
As the new school year starts, I’m sharing my favourite recipe that we love Paleo Meatballs. Full of good fats and protein, our Paleo Meatballs keep brains functioning optimally and boost focus at school.
Paired with my Creamy ‘legume free’ Hummus dip, these recipes are kid friendly, allergen free and simple to create. Add colourful veggie sticks to complete the meal. I use both for lunches and for after school snacks.
The recipes feature our mouthwatering spice blends which are loaded with health-enhancing properties.
5 Quick Back-to-School tips
1. Plan lunches the night before. Use leftover, they are better the next day and a god-send time saving. Nothing like having 20 precious minutes up your sleeve in the morning.
2. Use stainless steel lunchboxes, or protected Pyrex containers. Don’t think BPA-free containers are safe. Why? Read here.
3. Teach your kids to do it themselves. Full stop. End of point 3.
4. At breakfast, sit with your kids and take a breather. Connect with them, even if they seem calm, they may be feeling anxious or unsettled. Share 3 things each that you’re excited about for that day.
5. Remind them and yourself how much love exists between you. Even when you feel disconnected, angry, sad or frustrated… just swipe left and dive into love. It always exists.
